Stranger Things 5 has made history on Netflix with a massive 59.6 million views in just its first five days of streaming — it has become the most significant debut of an English-language series of all time on the platform. Thus, such a gigantic and record-breaking launch puts the new season just after the second and third seasons of Squid Game, which are still Netflix’s most-watched debuts of all time. Yet, this is still the strongest and greatest premiere week the company has ever had for its English series. The difference between Season 4’s opening numbers and this season’s is so impressive. In 2022, Netflix estimated that Season 4 had approximately 287 million total hours viewed, which amounted to around 22 million views. Season 5, on the other hand, has seen a 171% rise in performance when compared to the previous season. One point to be noted is that the figures for Season 5 are based on a five-day period while Season 4 was treated as a three-day period. In the meantime, Season 5 has already smashed a second milestone even before the complete release of the season. The hype among fans for the series led to the entry of all four previous seasons into the Netflix Global Top 10, which is the first such occurrence in Netflix history wherein five seasons of the same show were present on the list at the same time. During the period of November 24–30, Season 5 was at the top of the chart at No. 1, with Seasons 1, 4, 2, and 3 following closely, all of them ranking within the top 10. At present, only the first four episodes of Season 5 are available for streaming. Three more episodes will be released on Christmas Day, and the series finale will be out on New Year’s Eve. With a number of episodes set to release, Stranger Things 5 is likely to be the ruling title in the charts for several weeks and possibly even gain a spot among Netflix’s all-time most popular English-speaking titles.
