Surat’s Viral ‘Goldman’ The owner of Shyam Electronics Arrested in Serious Crime Case

Surat (Gujarat): The owner of Shyam Electronics, Vikram Chavda, widely known as “Goldman” for his flashy gold jewellery and viral marketing stunts, has been arrested by Surat police after being on the run for two months. He is facing serious criminal charges related to exploitation and blackmail of a minor employee.

From Viral Fame to Police Custody

Vikram Chavda rose to fame across Gujarat by posting unusual promotional videos in which he rode mopeds over televisions or kicked them to prove their durability, branding his products as “cheap and long-lasting.” These videos went viral on social media, bringing him thousands of customers and making him a well-recognized face in the region. His identity as “Goldman” came from his style of wearing heavy gold chains and ornaments while appearing in advertisements.

Complaint Filed by Teenage Employee

In June 2025, a complaint was filed at Kapodra police station by a 17-year-old girl who worked at Chavda’s store. She alleged that he had taken advantage of her, harassed her, and threatened her using objectionable recordings. Based on the FIR, police began investigating, and Chavda was booked under multiple sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act as well as the Indian Penal Code.

Associate Also Involved in Blackmail

Investigations further revealed that one of Chavda’s associates, Taufiq Ilyas Ansari, was also involved in threatening the girl. He allegedly pressured her to follow Chavda’s instructions and warned her against speaking out. Ansari was arrested in the first week of August, strengthening the case against the electronics dealer.

Two Months on the Run, Arrested Near Kamrej

After the FIR was filed, Chavda went missing and remained untraceable for nearly two months. He reportedly changed his phone number and travelled frequently to avoid arrest. Police later received information that he had gone to Goa with his wife. Acting on this tip-off, Kapodra police set up surveillance near Kamrej. On his return journey from Goa, Chavda was intercepted and taken into custody.

Charges and Investigation Ahead

Police officials confirmed that Chavda has been booked for serious crimes under the POCSO Act and related IPC sections, including intimidation and blackmail. His electronic devices have been seized for forensic examination to gather evidence. A senior officer said, “This case involves the protection of a minor, and strict legal action will be taken against the accused.”

Public Reaction

The arrest of Chavda has caused widespread shock. Many residents of Surat remember him as a flamboyant businessman whose eccentric marketing tactics made him popular on social media. His fall from being a viral figure to facing criminal charges has led to a wave of criticism. People who once admired his videos have now distanced themselves, with many demanding strict punishment.

What’s Next?

Authorities are continuing to investigate whether there may be other victims. Legal experts suggest that, if convicted, Chavda could face long-term imprisonment under stringent provisions of law. The case highlights how outward glamour and social media fame can sometimes conceal disturbing realities.
