Shubman Gill Injured:India captain Shubman Gill was forced to leave the field on Day 2 of the 1st Test against South Africa on Saturday at Eden Gardens after suffering a sudden neck injury. The incident took place just minutes after Gill walked in to bat following the dismissal of Washington Sundar in the 35th over.

As soon as he took his stance, the 25-year-old appeared uncomfortable and kept holding his neck. Team physios rushed onto the field to check him, but Gill continued to look in pain and eventually walked off the field. His sudden exit was a worrying moment for the Indian team, as he plays a key role as captain and top-order batter.

This incident comes shortly after former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly praised Gill’s leadership. Ganguly recently called Gill a “perfect captain” and applauded his performance during India’s tour of England. He highlighted that leading a team at such a young age in difficult overseas conditions is not easy.

Ganguly also spoke highly of Gill’s batting abilities, calling him an “all-format player” and wishing him success for the future.

Under Gill’s captaincy, India have made a strong start to their World Test Championship 2025–27 campaign. So far, the team has played seven matches, winning four, losing two and drawing one.

Fans now hope that the injury is not serious and that Gill will recover quickly so he can return to lead the team for the rest of the series.
