Farmers’ massive march towards Delhi; plan to surround Parliament
From today, thousands of farmers, under the leadership of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), will march towards Delhi. The farmers’ primary demands include allotting 10% of developed land plots to those affected by the Land Acquisition Act and ensuring the benefits of the new land acquisition laws. Farmers have warned that if their demands are not met, they will gherao (encircle) Parliament.
Notably, a high-level meeting between farmers and the administration took place on December 1, but as no consensus was reached, the farmers called for the ‘Chalo Delhi’ march on Sunday. Major farmers’ organizations such as the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) are participating in the movement.
The march will commence at 12 PM from the Mahamaya Flyover in Noida, led by BKP leader Sukhbir Khalifa. Farmers, traveling in tractors, will head towards Delhi, with participants from 20 districts, including Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, and Agra.
In light of the protest, Delhi and Noida police have increased security measures. Given the potential for massive traffic jams, police have advised commuters to use metro services. Additionally, barricades have been placed at the Noida-Delhi border for thorough checks, with PAC personnel also deployed alongside the police.
A traffic advisory has been issued, indicating several diversions and heightened security at Delhi’s borders. It remains to be seen whether this significant march by farmers will successfully reach Parliament.
