Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap Announce Divorce After Seven Years of Marriage

“After much thought, we have decided to part ways,” Saina wrote on Instagram.

Hyderabad, July 14, 2025: Indian badminton stars Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap have officially announced their separation, marking the end of their seven-year marriage. Late Sunday night, Saina shared the news via her Instagram story, stating that the couple had mutually decided to part ways after careful consideration.

“Life sometimes takes us in different directions,” Saina wrote. “Kashyap and I are choosing peace and growth for each other. I’m grateful for the memories we’ve shared and wish him the very best in life. Thank you all for your understanding and respect.”

The couple got married on December 14, 2018, in a private ceremony at their residence in Hyderabad. Their relationship began in 2007, though they had known each other since 2005, having trained together at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy.

A grand wedding reception was hosted on December 16, 2018, at the Novotel Hotel in Hyderabad. The star-studded guest list included top names from the sports and film industries such as Kidambi Srikanth, Jwala Gutta, Ashwini Ponnappa, Sudheer Babu, and actors Nagarjuna and Rakul Preet Singh.

Saina wore a navy-blue velvet lehenga designed by renowned designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, while Kashyap complemented her look in a custom silk sherwani.

A Look at Saina’s Legendary Career

Saina Nehwal, a native of Haryana, holds the distinction of being the first Indian badminton player to win an Olympic medal—bronze at the London 2012 Games. In 2015, she became the first Indian woman to achieve the World No. 1 ranking in women’s singles.

She has represented India in three Olympic Games and has won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in both 2010 and 2018. Saina first made headlines in 2008 by winning the BWF World Junior Championship and later became the first Indian woman to reach the Olympic quarterfinals in badminton.

Among her many accolades, she was honored with the Arjuna Award in 2009 and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2010.
