RBI Assistant Recruitment 2026 notification released; check eligibility, exam dates and application details
RBI Assistant Recruitment 2026: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the official notification for the recruitment of Assistants under Panel Year 2025. A total of 650 vacancies have been announced across RBI offices in different parts of the country. The recruitment will be conducted through a national-level competitive examination. Interested and eligible candidates must submit their applications online through the official website, rbi.org.in. The Bank has clearly stated that applications sent through any other mode will not be accepted.
The online application process will begin on February 16, 2026, and will remain open until March 8, 2026. Candidates can also pay the application fee during the same period. The preliminary examination is tentatively scheduled for April 11, 2026, while the main examination is likely to be held on June 7, 2026. However, RBI has mentioned that the schedule may change if required. Candidates are advised to regularly check the official website for updates regarding admit cards and examination dates.
The 650 Assistant posts are available in RBI offices located in cities such as Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram. The Bank may increase or decrease the number of vacancies depending on operational needs.
To apply for the post, candidates must meet certain eligibility conditions. In terms of nationality, applicants must be Indian citizens, subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, Tibetan refugees who came to India before January 1, 1962, or persons of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided they have an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India.
The age limit, as on February 1, 2026, is between 20 and 28 years. This means candidates must have been born between February 2, 1998, and February 1, 2006. Age relaxation is available for reserved categories. SC and ST candidates will get five years of relaxation, OBC candidates will get three years, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities may get relaxation between 10 and 15 years, depending on the category. Ex-servicemen, widows, divorced women, women judicially separated, and experienced RBI staff are also eligible for relaxation as per rules.
Educational qualification is an important requirement. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50 percent marks. However, SC, ST and PwBD candidates only need a pass class. Applicants must also have working knowledge of computers, especially word processing, and must be proficient in the local language of the state or region they are applying for. Ex-servicemen should have a graduation degree or an equivalent qualification after completing at least 15 years of defence service.
The selection process will consist of three stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and a Language Proficiency Test (LPT). The preliminary exam will have 100 questions for 100 marks, covering English Language, Numerical Ability and Reasoning Ability, and will be conducted for 60 minutes. The main exam will have 200 questions for 200 marks, covering Reasoning, English Language, Numerical Ability, General Awareness and Computer Knowledge. Both exams will include negative marking for wrong answers. The Language Proficiency Test will be conducted in the official or local language of the concerned state, and candidates who fail to qualify will be disqualified.
The application fee is ₹450 for General and OBC candidates, while SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen and RBI staff candidates need to pay ₹50. The fee must be paid online only. RBI has advised candidates to carefully review their application before final submission, as no corrections will be allowed later. Qualifying in the exam does not guarantee appointment unless all eligibility conditions are fulfilled and documents are verified.
