Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed India’s aspiration to host the 2036 Olympic Games, calling on the youth of Kashi (Varanasi) to begin preparations today to represent the nation on the world stage.
Speaking at a public event in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi, PM Modi said,
“We are trying our best to bring the Olympics to India in 2036. The youth of Kashi must start their training now—not just to participate but to bring glory to India.”
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of sports as a tool for nation-building, personal discipline, and international recognition. His message reflects the government’s growing focus on sports infrastructure, athlete development, and international sporting diplomacy.
India’s Bid for the 2036 Olympics
India has officially expressed its interest to host the 2036 Summer Olympics, with cities like Ahmedabad being considered as potential hosts. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is working with international stakeholders, and the government is committed to providing necessary infrastructure and support.
The Prime Minister’s call to action comes amid rising enthusiasm for sports across India, with increased participation in international events like the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and the Paralympics.
Focus on Youth and Grassroots Talent
Modi’s appeal was particularly directed at young athletes, urging them to view the next decade as an opportunity to hone their skills, train with purpose, and aim for the Olympic podium.
He highlighted how small towns and villages are becoming the new hubs of Indian sports talent.
“A decade may seem long, but champions are made every day in the sweat and sacrifice of practice. Let the youth of Kashi lead this movement,” he added.
A National Dream in the Making
As India positions itself as a rising global power—not just economically but also culturally and athletically—the ambition to host the Olympics signals a shift in the nation’s outlook. PM Modi’s words serve as both a motivational push and a strategic vision to make India a center of global sporting excellence.
