Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Seychelles President Patrick Herminie on Monday at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, marking an important moment in the growing relationship between India and Seychelles. President Herminie began his day by honouring Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, which serves as India’s national memorial for its primary leader. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also met President Herminie and appreciated his support for India’s Vision MAHASAGAR, which focuses on maritime security, regional cooperation, and development in the Indian Ocean region.India considers Seychelles a key maritime neighbour and an important partner in strengthening cooperation with countries of the Global South. President Herminie arrived in India on Sunday as part of his ongoing State Visit, which will continue until February 10. This is his first visit to India since taking office in October 2025. The visit is also special as it coincides with the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles. Before coming to New Delhi, the Seychelles President visited Chennai and Mumbai, where he met key stakeholders from various sectors such as governance, industry, coastal management, and healthcare. The purpose of these meetings was to establish closer ties between the two countries while discovering new areas to work together. At the SIMS Hospital, President Herminie conducted a meeting with Minister Marvin Nolan Fanny and Chairman Ravi Pachamuthu. The discussions focused on strengthening healthcare services in Seychelles through long-term and sustainable solutions. The solutions will include super-speciality medical outreach, hospital infrastructure development, digital health integration, workforce support, affordable medicines, and the expansion of dialysis services. During his stay in New Delhi, President Herminie is also expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu and hold detailed discussions with Prime Minister Modi. The talks are likely to focus on enhancing bilateral ties and exchanging views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, further strengthening the partnership between India and Seychelles.
