The Budget Session of Parliament remained ongoing on Day 4 on February 2, 2026, with both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha taking up the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address. The session comes after the Union Budget was presented on February 1.

Earlier in the day, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned until 2:00 pm. In the Lok Sabha, members accepted the Thirteenth Report of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), which was laid on January 29. The report details the time allocated for discussion and the agenda for the session.

The debate on the Motion of Thanks began in the Lok Sabha, where Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is set to address the House. Several Congress MPs, including Tariq Anwar, Amarinder Raja Warring, Anto Antony, and Jothimani, are also expected to contribute to the debate.

The Budget Session began on January 28, 2026, with the President’s address to a joint sitting of both Houses. Addressing Members of Parliament in her address, President Murmu called upon Members to be united on major national issues such as national security, the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India), and swadeshi. She also emphasized the government’s commitment to social justice and inclusive development.

The government has allotted a total of 18 hours in the Lok Sabha for discussion on the Motion of Thanks. The debate will take place over three days—February 2, 3, and 4. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to reply to the discussion on February 11.

The proceedings are being closely watched as they set the tone for detailed debates during the ongoing Budget Session.
