Several Opposition leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chiefs Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, staged a protest on Tuesday (December 2, 2025) in the Parliament House complex. They demanded a detailed discussion on electoral reforms and opposed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The protesting leaders held posters and placards criticising the SIR process and displayed a large banner that read “Stop SIR – Stop Vote Chori.” They also raised slogans against the government, accusing it of compromising the transparency of the electoral system.

Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge were joined by DMK leaders K. Kanimozhi and T.R. Baalu as they demonstrated in front of Parliament’s Makar Dwar.

The first day of the Winter Session saw multiple adjournments in the Lok Sabha, along with an Opposition walkout in the Rajya Sabha, after their demand for a debate on SIR. The government, however, stated that while it is open to a discussion, it cannot commit to a fixed timeline.

Before the session began, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised the Opposition, accusing them of using Parliament as a “warm-up arena” for elections or as a platform to vent frustration after political setbacks. He said he was even willing to offer them guidance on bringing positivity into politics.
