Varanasi Voter List Controversy: Man Listed with 50 Children Sparks Political Uproar; Congress Accuses PM Modi of ‘Vote Theft’

Varanasi: A bizarre entry in the Varanasi voter list showing a man as the father of 50 children has triggered a political and religious storm in Uttar Pradesh. The revelation has not only stunned the public but also enraged saints, seers, and religious students in the holy city. Vedic student groups (Veda Pathi Batuks) staged a symbolic protest by performing a Buddhi Shuddhi Puja (purification ritual) demanding immediate rectification of such anomalies in the electoral roll.

The controversy erupted shortly after Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, accused the ruling party of “stealing votes” in the recent general elections during a national press conference. Seizing the momentum, the Uttar Pradesh Congress claimed that voter list irregularities and fraudulent entries were rampant in multiple constituencies where Congress lost by slim margins.

Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai launched a direct attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home turf, alleging that “vote theft” took place even in Varanasi, which allowed PM Modi to secure his seat. “This is not just about one constituency; it’s about the credibility of our democratic process,” Rai stated.

Political analysts believe this revelation could escalate into a larger electoral integrity debate, especially with opposition parties now demanding a full investigation into voter list irregularities across the state. The Election Commission is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

The development adds another flashpoint to the already heated political climate in Uttar Pradesh as parties prepare for upcoming state and national elections.
