Domestic LPG Cylinder Price Increased to ₹913 in Delhi

The price of a domestic LPG cylinder has been increased by ₹60 from March 7, 2026. After the hike, the cost of a 14.2-kg cooking gas cylinder in Delhi has gone up from ₹853 to ₹913, according to data released by Indian Oil Corporation.

This is the second price increase in less than a year. The last change happened in April 2025, when the price of LPG cylinders was raised by ₹50.

People who receive benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will also see the price rise. However, they receive a ₹300 subsidy for up to 12 refills every year, so they will now pay ₹613 per cylinder after the subsidy.

Along with domestic LPG, the price of commercial LPG cylinders used by hotels and restaurants has also increased. The price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder has gone up by ₹114.50, taking the rate in Delhi to ₹1,883. Earlier on March 1, the price had already increased by ₹28, making the total rise in commercial LPG prices this year ₹302.50.

Industry officials say the main reason for the price hike is the increase in global energy prices due to tensions in West Asia. The conflict has affected the movement of oil and gas tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, an important route used to export energy from the Middle East.

Because of the disruption, global oil prices have increased sharply. West Texas Intermediate crude rose to around USD 90.90 per barrel, while Brent crude climbed to nearly USD 92.69 per barrel. Prices of liquefied natural gas in Asia also jumped to about USD 25.40 per million British thermal units, the highest level in three years.

Higher international prices for propane and butane, the main components used to produce LPG, have increased import costs for countries like India.

Despite the increase, officials say LPG prices in India are still lower than in many neighbouring countries.

In other major cities, the price of a domestic cylinder is ₹912.50 in Mumbai, ₹939 in Kolkata, and ₹928.50 in Chennai. Prices may vary between states because of different local taxes such as VAT.

India depends heavily on LPG imports to meet demand. Out of 31.3 million tonnes consumed in 2024-25, only about 12.8 million tonnes were produced in the country, while most imports come from Gulf nations.
