London-Mumbai Virgin Atlantic Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Turkey; 300 Indians, Including 2 Gujaratis, Stranded for Over 16 Hours

A Virgin Atlantic flight traveling from London to Mumbai made an emergency landing in Turkey, leaving 300 Indian passengers, including two Gujaratis, stranded for over 16 hours. According to reports, the flight was diverted to Turkey due to a medical emergency. However, despite repeated requests from the airline’s management, takeoff clearance has not yet been granted. Among the stranded passengers are two individuals from Pathri village in Valsad district, Gujarat.

No Takeoff Clearance Even After 16 Hours

Virgin Atlantic Flight VS 358, en route from London to Mumbai, made an emergency landing at Turkey’s Diyarbakır Airport due to a medical emergency. More than 16 hours have passed since the landing, yet permission for takeoff has not been granted, leaving passengers frustrated and anxious.

Passengers in Distress

The prolonged delay has caused significant discomfort for all passengers, including young children and elderly individuals. Moreover, passengers have not been provided with clear information regarding their onward journey. Reports suggest that the airline has not yet arranged any alternative solutions for the stranded travelers.

Virgin Atlantic’s Statement

A spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic stated: “Our flight, which departed from London Heathrow for Mumbai on April 2, had to make an emergency landing at a Turkish airport due to a medical emergency. The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Our engineers are conducting a technical inspection of the aircraft.”

Indian Government’s Efforts to Assist Passengers

The Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation has reportedly contacted Turkish airport authorities regarding the situation. Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have also been informed. The ministry has assured that an official has been appointed to oversee the situation, and all necessary efforts are being made to ensure the safe return of the stranded passengers to India.
