L2 Empuraan: Mohanlal Apologizes Amid Controversy, Gujarat Riots-Related Scenes to Be Removed

South Indian superstar Mohanlal’s film L2 Empuraan has sparked major controversy. In response to the backlash, Mohanlal has issued an apology to his fans. In a Facebook post, he expressed regret, stating, “I deeply regret the pain caused to you.” He also assured that scenes referencing the Gujarat riots would be removed from the film.

Mohanlal’s Statement

Mohanlal said, “Political and social issues have arisen due to Empuraan, which has disappointed my fans. As an artist, it is my responsibility to ensure that none of my films contribute to political unrest or spread hatred against any religion. My team and I sincerely regret the distress caused to fans. We have decided to remove the controversial scenes from the film.”

Earlier, 17 scenes from Empuraan were ordered to be edited. Some dialogues will also be muted, and the villain’s name, originally Bajrang, will be changed.

Support from the Left

While the film faces heavy opposition on social media, the Left has openly supported it. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan attended a screening and emphasized that freedom of expression must be upheld.

Why the Opposition?

Critics argue that the film spreads misinformation about the 2002 Gujarat riots. Hindu nationalist groups claim that it deliberately includes scenes that hold Hindus responsible for the events.
