IndiGo Crisis: 450 Flights Cancelled, Normalcy Still Delayed

IndiGo Update: IndiGo, the largest Indian airline, has been dealing with a huge mess for a long time now and the Flights cancellations have been going on for the seventh day in a row. The disruption has spread to airlines in many areas of the country but at the moment it seems that nothing is getting better. As per the officials, IndiGo has already issued ticket refunds worth ₹610 crore, which is a clear indication not only of the magnitude of the problem but also of the crisis that is happening. Due to the chaos that ensued on Monday, over 350 flights were cancelled in total across India. Delhi airport was the hardest hit, and in one day 134 flights (75 departures and 59 arrivals) were. Also, Bengaluru airport experienced huge disruptions with 127 cancellations being reported. Other cities such as Chennai with 71, Hyderabad with 77, and Jammu with 20 also had their fair share of cancellation problems. And so the story continues, passengers in India are still facing a nightmare of long queues, sudden cancellations and rescheduling problems. Airlines have been receiving the bulk of the complaints on social media, with people venting their frustration for not being informed in a timely manner and for the lack of clarity on the situation. According to experts in travel, they categorically state that this is one of the most massive disruptions to the aviation sector in India. On the other hand, the airline is still silent about when flight operations will revert back to normal, but insider information points to the reasons behind the crisis being staffing shortages and operational mismanagement Besides, the aviation ministry is monitoring the situation and has asked IndiGo for detailed reports in order to be fully appraised of the matter. At this moment, the public is warned to check the status of their flights before going to the airport and if possible, to take alternative transport. It has been a week already with cancellations and the number of affected flights is close to 450, thus normal operation still seems to be a few days away.
