India–US Trade Dispute Deepens, Pakistan Issues Water Threat, BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy Secures Key Victory, Flood Crisis Worsens in Bihar

New Delhi: Trade relations between India and the United States are facing heightened strain. The US has already imposed a 25% tariff on certain Indian products and plans to increase it to 50% from August 27. In Parliament, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee questioned the government over the impact of these tariffs and trade policies. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry responded, highlighting ongoing discussions and efforts to resolve the dispute through diplomatic channels.

Tensions with Pakistan have also escalated following the temporary suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. Reports suggest Pakistan is grappling with a severe water crisis, which has triggered political outrage in the country. After sharp remarks by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Army Chief General Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a warning to India over water sharing. The statement has been seen as a provocative gesture, further straining bilateral relations.

In domestic politics, senior BJP leader and MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy secured a decisive victory in the election for the Secretary post of the Constitution Club of India. He defeated party colleague, former MP, and ex-Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan. The contest saw over 700 members cast their votes, marking a high turnout for the prestigious post.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in Bihar continues to worsen, particularly in Bhagalpur district. Large areas remain submerged as the Ganga River’s water level rises steadily, deepening the flood crisis. Residents are struggling with disrupted transport, lack of basic amenities, and the threat of further inundation. Authorities have launched relief operations and urged people in vulnerable areas to relocate to safer zones.
