India and Brazil Strengthen Strategic Partnership in Trade, Technology and Global Cooperation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Saturday, which is a significant event in further enhancing the relationship between India and Brazil. The two leaders engaged in delegation-level talks to enhance cooperation in trade, technology, and governance.
Earlier in the day, President Lula was given a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan. He was received by the Guard of Honour and Prime Minister Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. This visit is a reflection of the growing strategic partnership between the two large economies of the Global South.
During his visit, President Lula also held talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to discuss bilateral and multilateral issues. Sources from both sides said that the talks were focused on enhancing trade relations, improving market access, and cooperating in new and emerging areas of technology such as artificial intelligence.
On Friday, President Lula opened the first office of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex) in New Delhi. In a post on X, he stated that the new office would help market Brazilian products and services abroad and also bring foreign investments into the important sectors of Brazil’s economy. This will help to have smooth business interactions between Indian and Brazilian companies.
Brazil’s Ambassador to India, Kenneth da Nobrega, appreciated the Indian government for hosting the India AI Impact Summit 2026. He said that the rapport between President Lula and Prime Minister Modi is strong and friendly. In an interview with ANI, he said that the chemistry between the two leaders has taken bilateral relations to a new level. According to him, the relationship is not just a professional partnership but also a personal understanding that is growing.
The talks held at Hyderabad House included cooperation in agriculture, energy, digital innovation, and sustainable development. India has been demanding increased market access for fruits and vegetables in Brazil, while Brazilian companies are looking for new opportunities in India’s growing digital and manufacturing industries.
