After winning the toss, New Zealand chose to bat first and scored 259 runs in their first innings. In response, India was bowled out for just 156 runs in their first innings. With a 103-run lead, New Zealand scored 255 in their second innings, setting India a challenging target of 359 runs.

This series defeat marks India’s first home series loss since 2012, ending their record of 18 consecutive home series victories. New Zealand becomes only the fourth team since 2000 to win a Test series in India, joining South Africa, Australia, and England in this achievement.
