In the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the phase of voting has concluded, and the focus now shifts to awaiting the results. Initially, voting seemed slow during the early hours, but by evening, the statistics broke all previous records. For the first time in three decades, Maharashtra witnessed over 65% voter turnout.
Highest Voting in Three Decades in Maharashtra
Districts like Gadchiroli and Kolhapur recorded a voter turnout of up to 75%. Political analysts are speculating about the implications of this increased turnout. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is optimistic, expressing confidence that the BJP and its alliance, the Mahayuti, will once again secure the public’s mandate. Rural areas of Maharashtra saw the highest turnout, whereas Mumbai registered only 52% voting. Both major alliances, the Mahayuti and the Maha Vikas Aghadi, are now claiming victory.
Fadnavis Meets Mohan Bhagwat
Speaking about the increased voter turnout, Deputy CM Fadnavis stated that whenever voter turnout rises, the BJP benefits. He is confident that this trend will favor the BJP and the Mahayuti alliance this time as well. After casting his vote, Fadnavis visited the RSS headquarters in the evening, where he met RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat.
Speculations of RSS Support for Fadnavis as CM
According to sources, senior leader Bhaiyyaji Joshi was also present during the meeting at the RSS headquarters. Fadnavis reportedly stayed there for about 20 minutes before leaving. While neither BJP leaders nor other sources have provided clarity on the meeting, speculation is rife that Fadnavis might have secured RSS support for the Chief Minister’s post.
