Guaratj is yet to witness the full onset of winter chill, and even before temperatures drop significantly, fresh forecasts indicate two rounds of unseasonal rainfall in December. According to meteorologist Ramanik Vamja from Vanthali in Junagadh, the state may receive nearly ten days of unseasonal showers next month. He stated that the first weather shift is likely between December 7 and 10, during which the atmosphere will undergo a major change, leading to light but widespread rainfall. The second spell of unseasonal rain is expected between December 23 and 28 across Saurashtra. During this period, dense fog, cloudy skies, and intermittent light showers are likely. Vamja added that such unseasonal rains could damage grasslands and affect fodder availability for cattle. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also commented on the current weather conditions. Dr. A. K. Das, Director of the Meteorological Department, said that although winter has begun, temperatures are not expected to drop sharply immediately. He mentioned that the prevailing winds are blowing from the southeast to the east, which carry warm air, causing temperatures to remain higher than normal. The increased moisture in the air has also contributed to a rise in minimum temperatures. According to IMD, temperatures may gradually fall after two days as northwesterly winds—typically colder—begin to dominate again. Once these cooler winds set in, parts of the state will experience a more noticeable drop in temperature. The latest temperature records from various cities reflect that Gujarat is currently experiencing only mild winter. As per data recorded on the previous day, Naliya was the coldest city in the state at 13.6°C minimum temperature, while Okha recorded the highest minimum temperature at 22.6°C. Ahmedabad registered a maximum of 31.5°C and a minimum of 21.1°C. In Amreli, the maximum touched 31.9°C while the minimum dropped to 19.2°C. Vadodara experienced a comparatively warmer day with the maximum reaching 33°C, and the minimum settled at 21.2°C. In Bhuj, the maximum temperature stood at 30.3°C and the minimum at 16°C, indicating moderate winter conditions. Coastal and central regions such as Diu, Dwarka, Gandhinagar, and Kandla recorded maximum temperatures between 30°C and 32°C. Rajkot experienced a maximum of 33.1°C, while Surat was among the warmest with a maximum of 34.4°C. Veraval recorded a maximum of 30.7°C and a minimum of 21.9°C, showing only slight winter intensity. With meteorologists predicting dense fog along with unseasonal rainfall during both upcoming spells, residents are advised to prepare for sudden changes in weather. Such conditions may impact transport, agriculture, and daily routines, especially in Saurashtra, where fog and drizzle could persist during early mornings and late evenings. The state is expected to witness more pronounced winter conditions only after these two phases of atmospheric disturbance are over.
