FLO Organises Cancer Awareness Walk on the Eve of Cancer Awareness Month

Hyderabad, October 2, 2024: FLO (FICCI Ladies Organisation) organised a Cancer Awareness Walk to mark the beginning of Cancer Awareness Month, observed in October. The walk took place from the Botanical Garden to KIMS Kondapur on Wednesday morning, in partnership with KIMS Kondapur Hospital.

Over 100 FLO members, along with their families, participated in the 5 km walk, holding placards to raise awareness about cancer, early detection, and prevention.

FLO Chairperson Priya Gazdar highlighted the increasing incidence of cancer and emphasized the importance of cancer literacy and early detection. “Awareness and early detection are the only way forward,” she said, noting the critical role of community support in helping cancer patients. “It is not CANCER, but it is CanTogether,” Gazdar added, encouraging a message of hope and unity.

The walk concluded at KIMS Kondapur, where the Torn Curtains Theatre Group, one of Hyderabad’s oldest theatre groups led by Mala Pasha, performed a play titled Half Cup Full. The play focused on Breast Cancer Awareness, featuring the inspiring journey of breast cancer survivors and the importance of support groups.

During the event, Dr Shilpi Reddy of KIMS Hospital emphasized the need for awareness, stating, “Breast cancer is often assumed to affect older women, but the average age of patients is just 35 years. Even men can suffer from breast cancer.” Many doctors echoed the importance of early detection as the key to a successful cure.

This initiative served as a reminder that cancer awareness and early detection can save lives, fostering hope and community support for those affected by the disease.
