A tragic road accident on the Surat Outer Ring Road claimed the lives of an elderly couple on Sunday night. The couple, travelling home from a family wedding on their motorcycle, died on the spot after their bike collided with a passing tanker. The impact was so severe that both suffered fatal head injuries, leaving the road bloodstained once again—an unfortunate repeat of serious accidents on the same route. Upon receiving information, Amroli Police immediately reached the scene and began further investigation.
According to police and eyewitness reports, the deceased were 60-year-old Bhupatbhai Laljibhai Dungarani and his 58-year-old wife Ushaben. Originally from Man Vilas village in Bhavnagar, the couple had been living for many years in Rishikesh Apartment near Sarathana Jakatnaka, Surat. Bhupatbhai lived with his wife, son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and extended family. Their son runs a saree store in the Millind Textile Market. On November 24, the couple had attended a wedding ceremony at a relative’s home in Amroli and were returning to their residence when tragedy struck.
The accident occurred near Vedant Circle on the Outer Ring Road. At the time, traffic movement was normal, but the couple’s bike came dangerously close to a large tanker travelling alongside them. As the heavy vehicle began to pass, Bhupatbhai reportedly lost control of the bike’s steering due to the tanker’s sheer size and proximity. Within seconds, the motorcycle skidded and crashed directly into the tanker’s rear wheel. The force of the collision flung both riders onto the road with severe head injuries.
Locals rushed forward to help as soon as the accident happened. Ushaben had already succumbed to her injuries, while Bhupatbhai was barely breathing. Witnesses immediately called the 108 emergency service, but by the time the medical team arrived, the paramedics declared him dead as well. The tragic loss left nearby onlookers shocked, as the couple had been moments away from reaching home.
As soon as the news reached the family, their son and relatives rushed to the site in disbelief. A wave of grief swept over their household as two senior members of the family were lost in a matter of minutes. The neighbourhood in Sarathana was overwhelmed with sorrow upon hearing the devastating news.
Amroli Police began an investigation immediately. After reviewing the scene and preliminary details, an FIR was registered against the tanker driver. Police officials are now examining CCTV footage from the surrounding intersections to confirm the sequence of events and determine whether negligence, overspeeding, or unsafe passing caused the accident. The tanker has been seized for forensic inspection, and statements from eyewitnesses are being recorded.
The Outer Ring Road of Surat has witnessed multiple fatal accidents in recent years due to heavy traffic flow, speeding vehicles, and lack of adequate lane discipline. Residents and commuters have repeatedly demanded stricter traffic monitoring and better road safety measures along the stretch. This incident once again highlights the urgent need for preventive steps to avoid more such tragic losses.
