Surat: Tensions have escalated between Surat Mayor Dakshesh Mavani and MLA Arvind Rana regarding development works in the Central Zone. On Friday, MLA Rana wrote a letter to the Mayor demanding a budget allocation of ₹25 crore to convert the zone’s roads into CC (cement concrete) roads. Rana stated that ongoing excavations and prolonged construction activities in the area are causing severe inconvenience to residents, leading to many people migrating from the region.

MLA’s Allegations: Dilapidated Roads and Migration

In his letter, MLA Rana wrote, “Excavation work in the Central Zone has been ongoing for the last 10 years, making life difficult for residents. The roads are in a deplorable state, and drainage and water line works have only added to the woes. Many people have been forced to leave the area.” Rana emphasized that the upcoming budget must prioritize repairing and upgrading the zone’s roads, with ₹25 crore allocated for this purpose.

Mayor’s Response: ₹196.71 Crore Spent on Development in Three Years

In response to Rana’s letter, Mayor Dakshesh Mavani detailed the developmental works carried out in the Central Zone over the last three years. In a comprehensive 20-page reply, the Mayor highlighted that a total of ₹196.71 crore has been spent on various projects, including CC roads, drainage systems, water lines, housing schemes, and hydraulic sections. He also clarified that ongoing development work worth ₹92.24 crore is currently in progress and will be completed soon.

Commending Efforts of Local Councillors

Mayor Mavani praised the efforts of councillors from Wards 12, 13, 20, and 21, who are consistently working with the administration to resolve residents’ issues. He also pointed out that monthly meetings are held with MLAs and MPs to gather suggestions and ensure timely implementation of developmental projects.

Indications of a Cold War Within BJP

This clash has highlighted internal rifts within the ruling BJP, with the disagreement between the Mayor and MLA exposing factionalism within the party. Political circles are abuzz with speculation that the issue might further intensify the internal tug-of-war within the BJP.

Growing Public Discontent

Residents and traders in the Central Zone have also expressed their concerns over the situation. They stated that ongoing construction work has made commuting difficult, while shopkeepers are facing financial losses. If a resolution is not reached soon, the situation could worsen further.

Conclusion

The clash between the Mayor and MLA over the development of the Central Zone reveals internal differences within the BJP and brings attention to the region’s unresolved issues. It remains to be seen how both leaders will resolve this dispute and deliver swift solutions to the residents of the Central Zone.
