BJP Likely to Announce Observers for Delhi Today: Chief Minister’s Name May Be Revealed on February 18
The BJP is expected to announce the names of observers for Delhi today, as part of the process to finalize the selection of the Chief Minister. According to sources, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh may join the process. A meeting of the party’s general secretaries was held at the party headquarters on Saturday, which was also attended by party president JP Nadda.
On Friday, National Secretary and MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that after the appointment of the observers, a legislative party meeting will take place on February 18 or 19. Sources indicated that the swearing-in ceremony for the Chief Minister and the Cabinet might take place on February 19 or 20 in Delhi.
BJP Wins 48 Seats with 71% Strike Rate
Among the top contenders for the Chief Minister’s position, Pravesh Verma emphasized that the BJP government’s main agenda will include development, clean water supply, and clean air. He also highlighted the cleaning of the Yamuna River as a priority, adding that the party has already started working on this issue and will fulfill its promise regarding the river’s cleanup.
In the Delhi Assembly election results announced on February 8, the BJP emerged victorious, winning 48 out of 70 seats, making a comeback to power after 27 years. Like the last two elections, the Congress failed to win a single seat. With a 71% strike rate, the BJP increased its seat count by 40, while the AAP lost 40 seats, with a 31% strike rate.
First Meeting of BJP MLAs Held on February 9
Prior to this, a meeting of Delhi BJP legislators was held on February 9. After the meeting, BJP MLA from Rajouri Garden, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, stated that the discussions focused on water supply, drainage systems, and the cleaning of the Yamuna River. It was decided that these issues would be prioritized.
This was the first meeting of the legislators after the BJP secured a majority. After the meeting, Pravesh Verma and Manjinder Singh Sirsa separately met with the national president JP Nadda at his residence.
