Asit Modi Celebrates Raksha Bandhan with ‘Dayaben’ Disha Vakani, Calls It a Bond of the Heart

Entertainment Desk: For over 17 years, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC) has remained one of India’s most beloved television shows, with its characters etched deeply in viewers’ hearts. Among them, Disha Vakani’s portrayal of ‘Dayaben’ holds a special place. Recently, a heartwarming video featuring Disha and the show’s producer Asit Modi surfaced online, capturing a Raksha Bandhan celebration that left fans emotional.

The clip, shared by Asit Modi himself, shows him visiting Disha Vakani’s home, where she and her family greet him warmly. Disha performs aarti, applies tilak, ties rakhi on his wrist, and offers him sweets. In return, Asit Modi also feeds her sweets. In a touching moment, Modi attempts to touch Disha and her husband’s feet, but they stop him only for Disha to bow and touch his feet instead.

Accompanying the video, Asit Modi wrote: “Some relationships are woven by destiny… not by blood, but by the heart. Disha Vakani is not just our ‘Daya Bhabhi’, she is my sister. This bond, nurtured over years of laughter, memories, and affection, goes far beyond the screen. This Rakhi, I once again felt that same unbreakable trust and deep affection. May this bond always remain as sweet and strong as it is today.”

Disha Vakani’s Absence Since 2017
Disha Vakani became a household name through her role as Dayaben in TMKOC. However, at the peak of her career in 2017, she took a maternity break, initially planned for six months, but has not returned to the show full-time. She made a brief appearance in October 2019 via a phone conversation with ‘Jethalal’ in one episode.

According to media reports, Disha had requested ₹1.5 lakh per episode and stipulated a three-hour workday to dedicate more time to her family. Neither she nor the producers have confirmed these reports publicly.

Life Off-Screen
Disha married Mumbai-based chartered accountant Mayur Padia in 2015. The couple has two children daughter Stuti, born in November 2017, and a son, born in 2022.

This Raksha Bandhan reunion has reminded fans of the special off-screen connection between Disha Vakani and Asit Modi a bond, as Modi describes, “not of blood, but of the heart.”
