Hurun Rich List 2025: Ambani Family Tops India’s Wealth Rankings; Adani Group Leads First-Generation Businesses

Mumbai: The Ambani family has retained its position as the wealthiest in the country, securing the top spot in the Hurun India Most Valuable Family Businesses 2025 list with a business valuation of ₹28 lakh crore equivalent to nearly one-twelfth of India’s GDP.

In second place is the Kumar Mangalam Birla family, whose valuation rose by ₹1.1 lakh crore to ₹6.5 lakh crore. The Jindal family ranks third with a valuation of ₹5.7 lakh crore, marking a ₹1 lakh crore increase from last year.

Adani Group Leads First-Generation Family Businesses
Hurun India also released a separate report on the most valuable first-generation family businesses in the country. The Adani Group, led by Gautam Adani, secured the top position with a business valuation of ₹14 lakh crore.

The Poonawalla family ranks second with ₹2.3 lakh crore, followed by the Divi family at ₹1.8 lakh crore.

Key Highlights from the Top 300 Family Businesses Report

100 new families joined the rankings, taking the total to 300 with a combined valuation of $1.6 trillion (₹134 lakh crore) surpassing the GDP of Turkey and Finland.

The top 10 families account for nearly 50% of the total wealth.

Collectively, these families contribute ₹7,100 crore daily to the Indian economy and pay ₹1.8 lakh crore annually in taxes.

Sector distribution includes industrial products (48 companies), automobiles (29 companies), and pharmaceuticals (25 companies).

Among the listed companies, 74% are publicly traded, 62 have professional CEOs, and 22 are led by women.
