New Delhi, July 17, 2025: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has announced the results of the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, India’s largest cleanliness survey. In a proud moment for Gujarat, Ahmedabad has been ranked first among cities with a population of over 10 lakh, while Surat earned distinction in the Solid Waste Management category.

The awards were conferred by President Droupadi Murmu at a national ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday.

Indore Tops the National Cleanliness Rankings Once Again

Madhya Pradesh’s Indore continued its remarkable streak by being named India’s cleanest city yet again. It was followed by Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh) in second place and Mysuru (Karnataka) in third.

Ahmedabad’s leap to the top is significant — the city was ranked 15th in 2015 and has now become the cleanest among India’s major metro cities in 2025. The recognition highlights its sustained efforts in urban cleanliness, public participation, and smart sanitation initiatives.

The Swachh Survekshan Awards aim to foster healthy competition among cities and motivate local bodies to enhance sanitation standards and waste management practices.
