In a major breakthrough, Surat Rural Police have arrested an absconding parole jumper from Ahmedabad following special instructions issued by the Director General of Police, Gujarat. The accused, who was convicted in a cheque return case and lodged in Lajpore Central Jail, had gone missing after being released on parole. The state police headquarters recently launched a special statewide drive to trace and arrest prisoners who abscond after obtaining parole, furlough, or other temporary leave from jail. As part of this initiative, Surat Rural Police intensified operations across multiple districts. Acting on the directives of Surat Range Inspector General of Police Prem Veer Singh and Superintendent of Police Rajesh Gadhiya, a joint team was formed consisting of the Local Crime Branch and the Parole/Furlough Squad. The team operated under the leadership of Police Inspectors R.B. Bhatol, M.R. Shakoriya, and L.G. Rathod. Using a combination of technical analysis, surveillance, and human intelligence inputs, the team collected crucial information about absconding convicts. During the operation, Parole/Furlough Squad Inspector L.G. Rathod and Head Constable Rajesh Baldev received a specific tip-off from a private informant. The informant revealed that Paresh Dhirajlal Patodiya, a 43-year-old convict from Lajpore Central Jail who was sentenced in a cheque bounce case, had jumped parole and was hiding in Ahmedabad. Paresh Patodiya, originally a resident of Varachha in Surat, was released on 12-day parole on February 21, 2024. However, instead of returning to jail after completing his leave period, he disappeared and remained untraceable for several months. Based on the intelligence gathered, the team learned that Paresh was hiding in the Bapunagar area of Ahmedabad city. Acting swiftly, the Parole/Furlough Squad reached Ahmedabad and carried out a systematic search using both physical surveillance and technical monitoring. After confirming his location, the squad conducted a targeted operation and successfully apprehended the absconding convict. Following his arrest, the police completed all legal formalities and transferred Paresh Patodiya back to Lajpore Central Jail. Authorities stated that this arrest marks an important step in the ongoing statewide crackdown on parole and furlough jumpers. Surat Rural Police confirmed that more such operations are currently underway to locate and detain other absconding criminals who misused temporary jail leave to escape law enforcement. The administration emphasized that strict action will continue under the DGP’s special drive, ensuring that no convict remains at large after violating the terms of parole or furlough. Officials further added that enhanced monitoring, digital tracking methods, and increased coordination between police units across the state will help strengthen the efficiency of this crackdown. The arrest has also highlighted the importance of human intelligence networks and the swift mobilization of specialized squads. The Surat Rural Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring accountability for prisoners who attempt to evade the justice system. The broader statewide operation aims not only to arrest such escapees but also to deter future violations by ensuring strict surveillance and rapid action. With more teams deployed and intelligence gathering intensified, several more arrests are expected in the coming weeks as part of this ongoing enforcement drive.
